Tamarindo

As I have spent more time in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, I've only fallen more in love. The people here are so friendly and the hostel is full of travelers with great stories. I'm so glad I gave myself so much time at this hostel to really become comfortable. Today is day 5 and I have 13 still ahead of me! I make so many fantastic memories every day here that it will be impossible to recount all of them, but here are a few of my favorites:

I rented a surfboard with Jimmy and yesterday we took his friend Matt to a beach about 30 minutes south of Tamarindo by car. When we got there I soon realized the waves were much bigger than the baby waves I learned on here in Tamarindo, and after 5 minutes of struggling to paddle out past the break I made the realistic decision to leave my board in the sand and go for a swim instead. The experience of both diving under and floating over waves taller than myself really put me in touch with the movement of the ocean. It was so fun to watch Matt and Big Jim shred the waves out in the distance in front of one of the most magical sunsets I've ever seen.

Last night I joined a couple friends from the hostel for karaoke night at Sharkys! I went third, not before a Swedish girl I had met at Sharkys before absolutely DESTROYED a solo performance of rap song "The Real Slim Shady" by Eminem, never once making a mistake. When it was my time I mustered up all the Smoke Break swagger I possibly could and got everyone grooving to Wrong Way by Sublime. I brought the energy and it was returned to me, regardless of the quality of the performance. Ofir brought the dance moves, as always.

Singing last night reminded me how eager I am to create music, so as I write this post I'm waiting for Ableton to finish downloading on my computer. Hopefully that will push a lot of things into action and I'll have some music to share very soon.

I've had some wonderful conversations with my friends back home over the phone. I'm so glad to be able to chat with you guys and hear about your lives while I'm away. If you've gotten a call from me so far, thanks again for the conversation :) If you haven't, keep an eye on your phone. This is a long trip!

Peace and love and stay hydrated!
Love, Jonah

  1. The WAVE story!! Wow. I can envision the becoming one with the ocean and it’s both scary and beautiful. I’m so glad you busted out Smoke Break swagger for karaoke. Well done. 👏👏👏 I’m so happy that the Tamarindo hostel is continually enchanting. ESPECIALLY because you are there for a while longer. I’m going to continue asking for photos. A visual representation is slightly lacking…😂😂 📷 You are loved and missed a whole whole bunch. Love, mom
